‘Always so dark in a broken heart’. My assessment of this poem is that the lake is a place where this man goes to drink and get over his pain as he reflects on a love that has been lost. Whether out loud or internally when he is out on this lake he is speaking to God. Maybe he’s sitting on a boat or maybe he is sitting right on the edge of the lake. Either way he is trying to reach some level of peace within himself. This lake might be a metaphor for God. These verses/song lyrics are beautifully written. Very nice work here sir!
