A 125 Word Short Story
“You okay, baby?”
David nodded, perhaps too quickly. “Yeah. I’m fine. I’m fine.”
It wasn’t necessary to say ‘fine’ twice, asshole, David thought to himself.
Tara reached across the table and touched his hand. “Thank you for this dinner.”
“I — ”
David stood up, knelt down on her side of the table just as a man with a tray of glass plates approached. The waiter tripped over him and fell, sending plates everywhere. Glass shattered.
“You stupid motherfucker!” the waiter screamed, red-faced. “Boy, you’re a smart one! Real genius, right here! A REEEAAALL EINSTEIN!”
“Will you marry me,” David said, revealing the box and its enclosed ring.
“Yes,” Tara said, her eyes filling with tears. “I will!”
The couple stood up and kissed.
