Watch out it’s the cops!

Okay? So.

I guess you’ve just been in the dark for the last couple of months. You know about what’s been going on, right?

No.

Well, what the hell do you do all day?

Just live my life. I go for walks. Meditate. Read good books, stuff like that.

So you’re not worried about the cops behind us?

No.

What if they put their flashers on?

They didn’t.

But what if they do?

Haha. They didn’t though. It’s just a couple of cop cars that happen to be behind us.

Because we’re Black and they want to pull us over. They’re just looking for an excuse. I can’t believe you’re not more worried about this?

I was actually…you know, listening to the song, man. So if you could turn the radio up that’d be appreciated.

You didn’t hear about George Floyd, man? That situation alone should be enough to put you on guard.

Who’s George Floyd?

You’re kidding, man. Gonna ask me who the fuck George Floyd is. Are you serious? You don’t know who George Floyd is?

No. Who is he?

He’s the reason why you should be more worried about these cop cars driving behind us.

And why’s that?

Because he got choked out by the police. A motherfuckin’ officer had his knee to the man’s throat and killed him as he was begging for his life.

Well, that’s too bad.

Shit, too bad. It’s a fucking tragedy man. If I were you I would be looking over my shoulder every day just to make sure there’s not a cop trying to sneak up and do the same to you. If it ain’t the knee it could just as easily be a gun.

(Silence)

Really, you got nothing to say? What the fuck you smiling about?

Thinking about something funny I read in a book the other day. Just popped in my head for some reason.

Something you read in a book? But what about George Floyd? The cops behind us…well, they’re gone now, but you know how it is.

Nah…can’t say I do

Well, you should. You shouldn’t be acting so calm about everything.

So stress is better, huh?

(Silence)

All right then. Turn the radio back up, please.
